Samsung Electronics will launch a drone delivery service for the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, targeting island areas near Jeju Island, Yeosu, and Tongyeong, starting July 19th. This marks the first drone delivery service for mobile products in South Korea.

Samsung Electronics is implementing this service in collaboration with the ‘Drone Demonstration City Construction Project’ overseen by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. It will utilize the drone delivery infrastructure established by each local government, including drone equipment, take-off and landing zones, and control systems.

Drone delivery enables product delivery during logistics downtime, even after ship operations have concluded. This is expected to significantly reduce product delivery times from approximately 7 days to 1 day. Furthermore, it is anticipated that consumer convenience will be greatly enhanced in island regions by reducing the need for customers to visit stores for purchases.

Following a pilot run in Jeju Island in June, the drone delivery service will officially launch on July 19th. Going forward, the company plans to expand the range of deliverable items to include other Galaxy mobile products, such as smartphones, tablets, Buds, and Watches, with a weight limit of 10 kg or less.

In Jeju, drones will depart from the Sangmo-ri and Geumneung drone centers and deliver to three key locations: Gapa Island, Mara Island, and Biyang Island. The service will gradually expand to over 10 additional areas in Yeosu (including Haha Island, Jedo Island, and Songdo Island) and Tongyeong (including Bisan Island, Jwado Island, and Manji Island).

Samsung Electronics stated that this drone delivery service is a novel initiative aimed at providing island residents with a faster and more convenient Galaxy experience. They further emphasized their commitment to continuously developing new technologies and services that enhance consumer convenience and rights as a leading AI-driven company.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics has been offering a variety of convenient delivery services, including the ‘Time-Specific Installation Service’ launched last year. This service allows customers who purchase large home appliances such as TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines through Samsung.com to personally select their desired delivery time slots, in 2-hour increments, between 9 am and 7 pm.
